CONCRETE
HOUSE

'Concrete House' was shortlisted for a RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) award in 2013 and featured in the BBC TV series 'Building your Dream'. It was realised by Studio Gil Architects and Solid State Concrete. We had done a small job for Studio Gill previously that they were pleased with, so then got us on board for this more ambitious concrete project.

It involved an extension to the back of a traditional Georgian terraced house. The main idea was to have all the internal concrete lines connecting with the external concrete lines, from work surfaces, to flooring, decking and hard landscaping. We worked with joiner Nick M'Cawley, reusing our formwork to cast in place everything in White Portland cement. We upcycled the Oroco woodwork from science desks purchased from a nearby school. The decking is made from sawdust and recycled plastic.
