This minimalist artist studio in Hackney embraces the materiality of concrete. A challenging but exciting job due to the thickness of the concrete and cantilevering involved. In the bathroom we cast a 100mm thick vanity unit set into the wall, and a wall bench with heating pipes inside. We also repaired the recently cast wall (a mistake by the contractor), in which you can see the markings of each pour as they overlapped each other. This was done by filling the air bubble holes, without covering up the natural texture of the concrete markings.
